Community Service Opportunity 6/28

Posted by lgmcdonnell on Jun 21 2020 - 9:14am

Another opportunity listed below to pick fruit for the charity Harvest CROPS-  they provide food for those at risk for malnutrition.  Several of us did this two weekends ago and believe it or not it was a blast! The orchards are on homeowner private property and they are donating all of their crop to different charities. If parents are present kids as young as 11 can participate. It’s actually an enjoyable family event. You can get at least 3 hours of Community Service with this event. If interested email me Lgmcdonnell5@gmail.com.   General info:  http://www.harvestcrops.org/1%20Volunteers/Volunteer%20Notices/North%20County/Escondido/062820%20SUN%20Esc%20100%20O%20trs.pdf

Community Service

Posted by lgmcdonnell on May 20 2020 - 3:48pm
For those who have been looking for a way to help with community needs, our Troop can provide community service to the Encinitas Community Resource Center (CRC), the group that was originally going to benefit from our Scouting for Food program in March that was cancelled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

We now have a way to support the CRC during this crisis time.  It took a while to figure out how we were going to partner with them, but they have given specific guidelines of how to help donate at their site at the downtown Encinitas location:
CRC
650 2nd Street Encinitas
The info is below as well as attached.

You may go there directly to donate whatever goods you see on the list.  Not all are groceries.  There are personal hygiene items listed as well.
Your service hours can be counted for the amount of time you took to gather the items as well as to deliver to the site.

Thank you for your Good Turn!

YIS,

Mrs. McDonnell

LAST CALL.

If you have completed a Merit Badge please make sure you have turned in a fully completed Blue Card to Mrs. Miyagawa by 5/20. The following scout list below have completed rank or MB- if you are missing from the list please email Mrs. Miyagawa- scout written emails only. Please include a copy of your completed Blue Card- double check that both sides are completely filled in. Preferred: A photo copy attached in scoutbook to your Merit badge requirement vs email attachment- but either is ok :)

Starting a Merit Badge

Posted by Billymiyagawa on May 17 2020 - 7:23pm
The Merit Badge process is a little different than in the past but still the same themes. If at any point you are feeling lost in the advancement process please reach out to your Patrol Leader or Senior Patrol Leader first as that is what you would do during routine Troop meetings. Boy led Troop! Let your scout leaders help guide you! If you still need help contact a SM/ASM, or advancement chair.
  • How to Find A MBC-
    • use the Troop 2000 list which should be fairly close to accurate
    • use the SDIC website on the intranet
    • ask another scout for assistance if you forget the process
    • you don't seek a MBC out because the MBC is being provided via Troop meetings or MB day but nonetheless you have a MBC !
    • or ask an adult leader but try all of the above first
Once you find a MBC then you have to seek them out some how & communicate with them  (if you have not connected already)

Camporee April 24-26, 2020

Posted by gmarsh on Mar 8 2020 - 11:10pm

District San Luis Reis is having their annual Camporee on April 24-26, the weekend after the new scout trek. It has been discussed at a number of the district round tables, and it looks to be a lot of fun. This year, we are planning to take a group of scouts to participate. In fact, we are going to be practicing our scout skills for the camporee throughout March and April. There will be a $40 fee per scout for this event, and we will need to have everyone who wants to go registered by March 23. If you would like to attend, please bring the attached permission slip and the $40 payment to Gene Marsh before March 23. I look forward to seeing you at the Camporee! Also attached is the advertisement from the district.
